DEFEATED PARS NOT UP TO SCRATCH FOR MARTIN

-

DUNFERMLINE defender Lewis Martin admitted that the Pars were not good enough in their third-round defeat to Alloa. Having led through new arrival Greg Kiltie’s first goal for the club, Dunfermline were in pole position to secure their place in the last 16. But goals either side of the break from Robert Thomson and Alan Trouten flipped the game on its head and sent Alloa through. For Martin, it was a bitter pill to swallow. He told Pars TV: ‘For two of their goals, I think they might have had three shots and scored two of them. ‘They didn’t cut us open, they didn’t create too much, but they beat us 2-1 in the end and it wasn’t good enough. We just need to work hard in training and take it from there.’ There was also joy for Partick Thistle as goals from Joe Cardle and Kenny Miller saw them ease past Montrose. Inverness are safely through after a 3-1 victory over Morton. Goals from Nikolay Todorov, Aaron Doran and Miles Storey put Caley Thistle 3-0 ahead before John Sutton’s late consolation. There was disappointment for both Ayr United and Queen of the South. After Stephen Dobbie put Queens 2-0 up early in the second half, it came as a shock as three goals in 16 minutes sent Clyde through. Ayr, meanwhile, crashed out on penalties at Wrexham following a 1-1 draw. Airdrieonians are also in the last 16 following a 3-2 success over Irish side Bohemians. They are joined in the next round by Raith Rovers, Glenavon, Solihull Moors, St Mirren Under-21s, Stenhousemuir and Connah’s Quay Nomads.
