Pared-back style she’s made her own
AT first glance, this may not be the most exciting collection – but Meghan has precisely hit the mark.
These simple items are not intended to be a high fashion line, but instead what you need for a smart job interview or first day in the working world.
The pared-back feel and clean lines chime with Meghan’s own unmistakable style, and the fact she’s championing great British high street brands – along with her close friend Misha Nonoo – doesn’t hurt either.
The £19.50 M&S shift dress is a great shape and it will genuinely flatter everyone from six to 24 (the sizes available). It’s a minimalist design with all the expected attention to detail, such as a gently ruched neckline and open split sleeves. Shapeless and voluminous styles are on trend, but if you want something more structured it can be belted at the waist.
The dress comes in either blue or black. The deep cobalt blue shade was popular on this season’s catwalks, so this is an opportunity to sample a designer-inspired style for under £20.
But to be honest, it may prove too bold for many – I’d say the understated black will prove more popular. After all, when is black not in fashion?
The Jigsaw suit takes things to another level – as it should for more than £300!
It’s rather appealing that you can take part in this scheme at any price point and know that, whichever piece you choose, you will be providing a useful item of clothing to a woman who needs it. (An excuse for a guilt-free shopping splurge, perhaps?)
The suit’s single-breasted blazer pulls in beautifully at the waist – again, I think it’s been carefully designed to prove universally flattering. A word of caution though, as the front pleat cigarette trousers may be tricky if you’re not tall and thin. However its androgynous style is very in vogue with the young fashion set at the moment – think Cara Delevingne in a top hat and tails at Princess Eugenie’s wedding last year.
Misha Nonoo’s white husband shirt is top-quality cotton, which you can really feel. The mix has a little spandex so it sits beautifully against the body but at £125 – gulp! That’s A LOT of money on a wardrobe basic. You could buy five fabulous, sustainably produced white shirts for that amount in M&S.
Last, but certainly not least, the practical brown tote (also available in black) has already sold out, so clearly it’s a hit. Again, it’s not cheap but it’s 100 per cent leather and will last. It’s certainly built for work, with room for your laptop, CV, files and so on. Sure, it’s not a ground-breaking design and there are plenty of similar styles on the high street, but with this you’re giving back to a great cause.
