FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM THE SPFL THIS WEEKEND

- CALUM McCLURKIN

MORELOS IS THE MAIN MAN AT IBROX

ALFREDO MORELOS stepped up when required after Livingston took a shock lead at Ibrox. The Rangers striker scored the second goal in the 3-1 victory over Gary Holt’s side and the Colombian is currently in better form than Jermain Defoe. Morelos has bagged 11 goals in 13 games this season. Defoe has six in 11 matches but hasn’t netted in any of his last four outings.

INJURIES MOUNT FOR DISJOINTED DONS

THE casualty list at Aberdeen shows no signs of clearing up. Already juggling an injury-hit team, Derek McInnes must have been cursing his luck after Jon Gallagher, Craig Bryson and Funso Ojo succumbed to injury in the 1-1 draw with St Johnstone. The Pittodrie side lost their rhythm, balance and shape in a depleted midfield and struggled in the second period.

ALESSIO ABLE TO STEADY THE SHIP

THREE wins and a draw — and Kilmarnock have not conceded a goal in an impressive four-game run under Angelo Alessio. The Italian (pictured) deserves huge credit for steadying the ship after a woeful start to his reign. Killie gradually ground down Hibs in a 2-0 victory.

STEWART STRIKES THE RIGHT NOTES

ROSS COUNTY possess enough firepower to guarantee Premiership survival this season and Ross Stewart is leading the way. The striker has scored seven goals in ten games this campaign and netted in the 2-1 win over St Mirren. Stewart is a physical presence in the Staggies front line and is a key link-up player, but the 23-yearold has started to add goals to his game.

CALEY THISTLE SET TO BE IN THE MIX

TOO many draws proved costly for Inverness Caley Thistle in last season’s Championship so turning one point into three with a late winner to beat Dunfermline 1-0 bodes well for John Robertson’s men. Sean Welsh converted an 87thminute penalty and Caley Thistle, unbeaten in their last five games in all competitions, are two points off top spot.
