BROWN MAKES THE MOST OF HIS LAST-MINUTE CALL-UP
ADAM BROWN has revealed that he only discovered he would be facing Dunfermline five minutes before kick-off. The Alloa midfielder was due to be among the substitutes for the clash at East End Park but was forced to answer an SOS when defender Liam Dick proved unable to shake off a hamstring niggle during the warm-up. And Brown made the most of his big opportunity by lashing home an absolute firecracker in Fife, beating Pars goalkeeper Cammy Gill from all of 30 yards five minutes into the second half. A leveller from Kyle Turner seven minutes later robbed the Wasps of a vital three points. Nevertheless, Brown hopes his display can help kick-start his Alloa career, having only started three league matches since joining the club from Airdrie last summer. He said: ‘I only found out I was playing about five minutes before the kick-off. ‘I knew Dicko (Liam Dick) was struggling with his hammy a little bit and he was doing his own warm-up. ‘Paddy (Connolly, Alloa assistant) told me that during the last ten minutes of the warm-up — but it still came as a surprise. ‘I’ve been waiting for a chance like that and you need to be prepared. I felt I did okay, so I’m pleased with the afternoon. ‘I’ve not played enough football at this club in the last year, so hopefully I can just get a run of games and show what I can do, including chipping in a few more goals like that.’ While Turner’s neat, curled finish secured a share of the spoils for Dunfermline, the midfielder was left to rue a swathe of missed opportunities. Greg Kiltie and Kevin Nisbet both came close in the first half, while the latter rattled the bar with a header in the dying embers. Turner sighed: ‘The balls aren’t dropping, things are getting blocked and sometimes you just need a wee kind deflection. ‘That’s what happened the previous week at Thistle but we didn’t get any luck on Saturday.’
