Write us off at your own risk, says Kerr

- MICHAEL BAILLIE

DUNDEE defender Cammy Kerr is adamant it would be wrong to write them off in the Championship title race. And Kerr insists the ninepoint deficit to Championship front-runners Dundee United and Ayr United is not insurmountable and they can force their way into the title reckoning. Dundee dropped two points on Friday night after being held to a 1-1 draw at Queen of the South and then saw their city rivals and Ayr United pull further ahead with convincing wins on Saturday. Quizzed if there was any panic over the points gap, Kerr said: ‘Definitely not. There are 30-odd games to go and it would be silly for people to say that a nine-point gap can’t be clawed back. ‘It’s been done plenty of times before at both ends of the table. ‘We’ve got a really good bunch of boys. That will carry us a long way and things are going to click for us. ‘It’s seven games in and people are looking at it as a poor start. ‘We’ve been fine but we know that there is better to come.’ Kerr made a vital goal-line clearance at Palmerston to deny Faissal El Bakhtaoui a late winner and was delighted to make a crucial contribution having been at fault the previous weekend when he conceded a needless free-kick and then lost Peter Grant as the Morton defender headed home the winner. He said: ‘I’m happy to have made that goalline clearance but that’s what I’m there for. ‘Last week I was playing well and it was a stupid mistake at the end of the first half. ‘It was in the back of my mind all night that I don’t need to dive in. ‘It’s about learning from your mistakes and working on what you’re not so good at.’
