Caught in prison gear after college scam, Felicity’s Desperate times
WEARInG a prison-issue outfit bearing her inmate number, hair tucked up under a baseball cap, she looked far from her usual Hollywood glamour.
Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman has been spotted in her green prison attire at the Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin, California.
Huffman, 56, wore prison trainers, shirt and trousers as she walked to the visitor centre on Saturday to greet her husband, William H Macy, and daughter Sophia. She was also sporting a white tag showing her name and inmate number, 77806-112.
The prison is a low-security women’s institution, and has been described by media as ‘Club Fed’, making its way on to a list in 2009 of America’s ‘top ten cushiest prisons’.
The actress is serving a 14-day sentence for her role in a college admissions scandal in the US. She was jailed for cheating to get her daughter into college by paying £11,500 to ‘admissions-fixer’ Rick Singer to falsely improve Sophia’s exam scores.
She gave the money to a fake charity run by a college consultant who boosted the 18-year-old’s test results. Huffman could have faced four months in jail but was instead sentenced to 14 days, fined £24,000 and ordered to do 250 hours of community service.
Huffman last month told Boston Federal Court: ‘I am deeply ashamed of what I have done.’
The sentencing was the first in a college admissions scandal that has shocked Hollywood and led to students being expelled from leading US colleges such as Yale.
Around 50 suspects were charged including lawyers, chief executives and fashion designers. They had paid up to £4.6million to cheat their way into colleges.
Huffman apologised to the judge, her two daughters and her husband. Boogie nights actor Macy was not charged – but was caught on tape agreeing to take part in the scheme.
