‘THEY WERE DIFFERENT CLASS’

- By STEPHEN McGOWAN

WHEN a goalkeeper ships six goals and still ends up his team’s best player, it’s the sign of a bad day at the office. Ross Laidlaw could do little about Celtic’s ruthlessness in front of goal. Nor could he take much solace in the fact that, without his contribution, they’d have scored nine or ten. ‘I had a few saves to make,’ said the former Hibs keeper. ‘I had to, because I don’t think we were at the races. ‘We are bitterly disappointed to come here and get beaten 6-0. We caught Celtic on a really good day, they were brilliant. ‘Being in goal, I could have sworn they had two or three more players on the park. ‘They were really good. I spoke to (Neil) Lennon after the game, who said they were really good and we just caught them on the wrong day.’ County travelled to Glasgow undefeated in their previous four games. Currently sixth in the table, they are already a healthy eight points ahead of St Johnstone who remain bottom. ‘We have done alright in games against teams around us,’ said Laidlaw. ‘We have a decent points tally. ‘We have a couple of tough games, with Hibs next week and then Rangers in midweek after that which will be our first round of fixtures done. ‘Points wise we are okay just now, but it is disappointing coming here. We wanted to give a good account of ourselves in this league, and it’s not great for the goals against tally. ‘It’s the teams around us that are the most important, we need to try to beat them. ‘We have Hamilton in a couple of weeks away, so we need to try and target getting points on the board in these games.’
