A slice of paradise
Homes near Gleneagles are par-fect for golfers, discovers Paul Drury
THERE is a lot going on before Christmas with Brexit (possibly), a General Election (definitely) and the usual festive fun, so you might think there is no time to squeeze in a house move. Housebuilder Stewart Milne Homes thinks differently – and is offering incentives to encourage you to unwrap your presents at a new address on December 25.
The firm describes its Hunter’s Meadow development at Auchterarder, just a few miles from the five-star Gleneagles Hotel, as ‘a slice of Perthshire Paradise’.
The builder will contribute to your Land and Buildings Transaction Tax bill, offer partexchange for your old home and even carpet the new one.
The incentives on offer differ for each house style in the development – the Kingsmoor, Laurieston and Heddon – so check with Stewart Milne for full details.
The location of Hunter’s Meadow is spectacular.
From the front of the Laurieston, a five-bedroom detached home, you can enjoy views of the Ochil Hills, now glowing brown in the late autumn sunshine. From the rear, the Grampians can be seen in the distance, this week sporting the first signs of snow on the mountain tops.
The expansion of Auchterarder has been carefully managed over the past 20 years by the local authority, housebuilders such as Stewart Milne Homes, and the local community.
Known as ‘ The Lang Toun’ thanks to its long high street, Auchterarder benefits from its proximity to the world-renowned Gleneagles Hotel and its golf resort, only three miles away.
Canny locals routinely cash in when big golfing events are taking place, renting out their properties to groups keen to save on five-star hotel costs.
Gleneagles also employs many of Auchterarder’s residents, providing a welcome fillip to the local economy.
The huntin’, shootin’ and fishin’ brigade, who shop at R Watson Hogg’s elegant store on High Street, are also well catered for.
At Hunter’s Meadow, the latest phase of homes introduces a blend of materials such as soft-coloured weather cladding, hipped roofs, heritage brick, render and stonework, to blend in with the existing architecture in Auchterarder.
The Laurieston has a modern heating system that is a combination of a Daikin air source heat pump and a traditional gas boiler. These pumps extract heat from the air, which makes keeping your home toasty an energy- efficient process.
In the kitchen, integrated appliances by AEG include a fridge-freezer, microwave, cooker. There is also a dishwasher.
French doors open to the turfed garden from both the kitchen-dining area and the adjoining living room. Upstairs, two of the bedrooms have an en suite, while there is also a family bathroom.
None of the bedrooms seems especially spacious but these could be altered with a bit of clever carpentry.
The Laurieston is priced at £348,000. Call 0845 900 3441 or email huntersmeadow@stewartmilne.com.
