Cats star Taylor, a puss in boots

IT’S a role she was keen to sink her claws into after years of being top cat in charts around the world.

Now Taylor Swift has told how she loved the ‘weirdness’ of playing flirty Bombalurina in the new Cats movie.

The US singer, 29, said: ‘I really had an amazing time with Cats. I think I loved the weirdness of it. I loved how I felt I’d never get another opportunity to be like this in my life.’

She was giving an interview to January’s edition of British Vogue which features her posing in long green boots lying on the floor looking pensive. Miss Swift, who has previously appeared in TV series CSI and movie Valentine’s Day, was asked about being an actress.

She said: ‘I have no idea. When I was younger,

I used to get questions like, “Where do you see yourself in ten years?” I’d try to answer.

‘As I get older, I’m learning that wisdom is learning how dumb you are compared to how much you are going to know.’

Miss Swift and Cats creator Andrew Lloyd Webber have collaborated on the song Beautiful Ghosts for the film, which will be sung by the character of Victoria, played by British ballerina Francesca Hayward, 27. The US star will sing her own version during the end credits.

Dame Judi Dench, 84, stars as Old Deuteronomy – a role cast as a male character in the 1981 musical. Lord Lloyd-Webber told the magazine Dame Judi was due to star in the original musical but snapped her achilles tendon and had to withdraw.

He added: ‘Then I had this idea that we could make Old Deuteronomy a woman. Seeing her perform this time was quite an emotional thing for me, because it was a very, very sad day when she had to leave the original show.’

Miss Swift told how during filming she raved about UK gummy sweets. She said: ‘Judi must have overheard me, because the next day I got to my dressing room and there was a signed photo from Judi and, like, six bags of it.’

James Corden and Sir Ian McKellen also star in Cats, which is due for release on December 20. British Vogue is available on December 6.
