Andreu apology to fans for misses

- By GARY KEOWN

TONY ANDREU has apologised to travelling fans for blowing a host of golden chances that could have earned St Mirren their first point on the road this season. The Frenchman was denied by Aberdeen goalkeeper Joe Lewis just 44 seconds into the 2-1 loss at Pittodrie, put an effort wide from a great position with 15 minutes to play and then missed a late penalty with the Dons No 1 also saving his weak effort from the rebound. ‘It was a sore one,’ admitted Andreu. ‘The first was a great save and I could maybe have taken a touch with the volley. ‘The penalty was the harshest one for me. It was my mistake and I apologise to the fans because we deserved better. A draw would have been fair. ‘The chance was at my feet but I didn’t take it. I could have done better but credit to the keeper as well. ‘I feel I let my team-mates down but they all told me it’s done now and that I can’t beat myself up too much.’ St Mirren host Motherwell on Wednesday and Andreu insists he would step up to the mark again if his side earn a penalty kick. ‘I’m not afraid to go and take one again as I’ve scored a lot of penalties in my career and have rarely missed,’ he said. Jim Goodwin’s Saints played well for long spells at Pittodrie, finishing particularly strongly, and Andreu insists they cannot allow themselves to be eaten up by the fact they have now lost all eight of their away fixtures in the Premiership. ‘We had such good possession but we are in a negative spiral when we go away and that is very frustrating,’ he said. ‘We can’t think negatively, though, as we will find things harder. We don’t score enough goals and we saw that again against Aberdeen with me.’
