14 stone danger dog could be put down af ter three attacks in street

- By Alexander Lawrie

A DANGEROUS dog faces being put down after terrifying attacks on three people.

The victims of the 14 stone Tibetan Mastiff include a teenager who had to fight it off with her school bag.

However, the 17-year-old girl, who cannot be identified due to legal reasons, was severely bitten on the forearm during her ordeal in Edinburgh in March.

Motorists had to stop to help her after she had been left ‘cowering on the pavement’ following the attack. The dog’s owner, Cher

Hardy, 31, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court earlier this month to admit losing control of it on three occasions.

Sheriff Peter McCormack will decide the fate of the 18-month-old animal, called Teddy, at a dog destruction hearing next month. He was handed a written narration which stated Hardy – a director of an Edinburgh property lettings firm – imported the dog from Russia.

The narration described the three attacks which took place within 100 yards of Hardy’s home in a street in the upmarket Murrayfield area.

Sheriff McCormack was told police had seized the dog and he deferred sentence on Hardy until next month.

Her pet also attacked a pensioner, who was rescued by two workmen. It knocked Jane Humphreys, 73, to the ground near her home before sinking its teeth into her arm and leg.

The OAP’s injuries are said to include a loss of ‘a significant amount of skin to her

upper arm’ as well as bite marks to her legs.

She is said to have been left traumatised and ‘unable to get the image of herself lying on the road being bitten by the dog out of her mind’.

The third victim, Fiona McHale, 53, suffered permanent scarring and is now scared of contact with dogs.

Hardy pleaded guilty to being the owner of the Tibetan Mastiff – a breed developed to protect livestock from attacks by wolves and bears – which was dangerously out of control, untethered and unmuzzled when it bit the 17year-old on March 7 this year.

She also admitted to similar charges involving the other attacks on May 3 and October 12 this year.
