WHAT TO WEAR THIS WEEKEND

A TEDDY COAT

- by Dinah van Tulleken STYLE EDITOR

AT LAST, COSY IS CHIC

Bears — they’ve figured out how to do winter right — hibernate. Unfortunately, much as we all feel like we’ve laid down the necessary fat reserves and deserve a twomonth rest, it’s not going to happen. Luckily Teddy coats are here to make these winter months a little more, erm, bear-able. They’re cosy, comfortable and, happily, extremely chic right now.

REPLACING REAL FUR

This is the outerwear to be seen in. There’s a long stylish list of famous folk and supermodels who are fans of the fluffy style; Karlie Kloss, rosie huntington-Whiteley, Carine roitfeld (former editor-inchief of Vogue Paris and fashion royalty) to name a few.

The fashion world is, thankfully, stepping away from real fur and this animal-friendly alternative is the way to wear faux.

A SNIP IN THE SALES

Max Mara has the fabulous Teddy icon coat, a cocoon cut camel hair/silk blend design available in a variety of colours.

it’s £1,970 though, so turning to mid-range we have stand studio whose faux shearling toffee-coloured creation is down to £195 in the Net-a-Porter sale. it also does the gorgeous green one below, £290, at matchesfashion.com.

Then there are the high street offerings. such as the cream coloured creation i’m wearing from Zara, only £69.99.

KEEP THE REST SIMPLE

Whatever the price point, they all look best with your smartest jeans and simple, understated knitwear. avoid anything too loose-fitting or floaty and stick to a more streamlined silhouette — the bear coat is big enough.

?? ?? If you’re not confident enough to try bright colours, stick to classic creams and browns These oversized styles certainly won’t show off your figure, but embrace it (and treat yourself to a pudding!) Jeans cut like trousers are smarter than your go-to skinnies or straight legs It’s a casual coat, so team yours with a pair of block heeled boots rather than trainers Coat and boots, both £69.99, zara.com; jumper, £89, marksand spencer. com; jeans, £75, Label Mix at next.co.uk
