ASTOUNDINGLY TALL CASH MACHINE!

Customers up to high dough with bank’s...

- By Joe Hutchison

WE’VE all heard of high finance but this is perhaps taking things a bit too far.

With the screen well above eye level, this local resident struggles to withdraw cash – despite standing on tiptoe.

The keypad of the Royal Bank of Scotland ATM in Arbroath, Angus, is more than ft from the ground – 18 inches higher than the average cash machine.

The ATM, in the town’s Gravesend, has been ridiculed online after a picture showing another customer struggling to use it was posted on social media.

Reece Robertson, 2 , from Dundee, who is ft 10in, only just managed to get cash out as his girlfriend, Holly Girolami, 24, looked on. In a social media post, Miss Girolami wrote: ‘Utterly perplexed by this cash machine in Arbroath. Why is it like this? Who is this for?

‘The pictures suggest the bottom of the cash machine is between four to five feet above the pavement.’

One Twitter user responded: ‘I’m ft 2in and a few months ago that was the only working [machine] and I had to stand on my bag so I could reach.’

Another commented: ‘Can’t reach it even with my heels on, absolute nightmare.’

And another person tweeted: ‘We had one in my village and the people made a wee platform out of wooden pallets cos folk couldn’t reach it.’

Bizarrely, the bank branch has another, far lower cash machine on another wall of the building only a few yards away.

Yesterday, Miss Girolami said: ‘We were just visiting friends in Arbroath, and we walked past it then went “hold on”. So Reece went over and tried to use it but it was a wee bit too high for him to read it all clearly, so I took a photograph. I struggled to see the screen properly and I’m ft 4in. I doubt it gets used much.’

Yesterday, an RBS spokesman said: ‘We don’t want to come up short in offering our customers access to cash.

‘However, we recognise that in this case it’s a bit of a stretch and that’s why we offer another ATM at a lower height just around the corner.’

‘I can’t reach it, even in my heels’
