Wave goodbye to needless flag row

-

I hadn’t realised I was living in such a utopia where everything is so perfect that the only thing to bother the SnP was whether or not to continue flying the EU flag at holyrood. there is nothing nicola Sturgeon likes better than to stamp her feet in a display of grievance and petulance. We entered the Common Market/EEC/EU as one nation (much against the SnP’s then policy) and now we are leaving as one nation (much against the SnP’s current policy). Get over it nicola — and more importantly, get on with the day job.

PHIL JOHNSON, Bishopton, Renfrewshire.

If the first Minister must put the vex in vexillology (the study of flags) by debating the post-Brexit flying of the EU flag over the Scottish parliament, when there are so many pressing practical problems afflicting Scotland, then perhaps she should step down. her replacement could then focus on among other things: declining education standards, rising drug deaths and the multitude of problems with the nhS and its hospital projects.

OTTO INGLIS, Edinburgh.

In response to fiona hyslop’s farcical ‘lecture’ on the reasons for continuing to fly the EU flag, I would like to confirm that we are all aware that EU citizens work here as doctors, nurses and teachers. there are also thousands of non-EU citizens making a very valuable contribution to our country. Perhaps we should demonstrate ‘solidarity’ — Ms hyslop’s word — with these people by flying the flags of, say, India and Pakistan among others.

P GRAY, Cupar, Fife.

BORIS summed up the SnP very well the other day by pointing out that they have not held a proper debate on education at holyrood for two years, yet find time to debate the flying of the EU flag there. they use holyrood as a base for their party politics, with no regard for the common good. WILLIAM BALLANTINE,

Bo’ness, West lothian.

NICOLA STURGEON’S latest absurd stunt is to keep the EU flag flying over holyrood, which would appear to put this over addressing the absolute shambles that we have in education, nhS, roads, bridges and newbuilds.
