BINGHAM LOOKS TO LIVERPOOL’S FOCUS
RAKISH BINGHAM insists Dundee United have to take a leaf out of Liverpool’s book and ignore people telling them the title race is over. Until Saturday’s shock defeat to Watford, the English giants had steamrollered their way to 18 straight wins in the Premier League and a massive 22-point gap. United have built up their own impressive lead at the summit of the Championship and fans have confidently been asking when — and not if — the Tangerines will finally clinch promotion back to the top flight. Yet Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Dunfermline stretched a poor run to just one win in their last seven — five of them league games — and led to accusations of complacency. And Bingham admits the Tannadice outfit, who still have an 18-point advantage over second-place Inverness Caley Thistle, are desperate to shake off their sluggish form and ensure they do not just stumble over the finishing line on their way back to the Premiership. Speaking ahead of tonight’s trip to face Ayr United, the former Hamilton Accies striker said: ‘There are still ten games to go, so we are nowhere near finished yet. ‘People can say the league is done but that’s not the way we are looking at it. ‘You look at Liverpool in the English Premier League. They lost to Watford but you don’t sense that they think it’s done yet. ‘They are going match by match and that’s what we are going to do too. The focus is on the next game and we will take it from there.’
