High-flying Cove are happy with shutdown

COVE RANGERS chairman Keith Moorhouse believes common sense has prevailed after Scottish football was shut down until further notice due to the coronavirus crisis. Managed by Paul Hartley, the Aberdeenshire club are runaway leaders of League Two by 13 points in their first-ever season in the SPFL. Despite the financial and logistical problems that will arise from the shutdown, Moorhouse is philosophical over the measures put in place by Scottish football’s governing bodies. ‘The decision has been made and we have to abide by the rules,’ he said. ‘It’s common sense. We have faced the exact same issues at work. I’ve got my own business in oil and gas. We’ve got equipment and people all over the world. ‘I’ve been non-stop working on that all week. We’ve got people stuck in Singapore, Alabama and other parts of the world.’ Moorhouse says Cove will be looking for further guidance on the league shutdown. He said: ‘We need to understand how long the postponement will be first. Is it a week, a fortnight, a month? ‘We will face the same challenges as everyone else but we will find a way around it, as we always do.’ Brechin City prop up League Two and are in serious danger of dropping out of Scottish senior football. Managed by former Celtic full-back Mark Wilson, the Glebe Park side are currently seven points adrift of second-bottom Albion Rovers, who have a game in hand. But City welcomed the decision to put Scottish football into cold storage. A Brechin spokesman said: ‘Although regrettable, this is a decision we applaud and fully endorse.’
