PAINTER PROFILE The Art Mysteries, 8.30pm, BBC4
WHY did Van Gogh cut off his ear, then paint himself wearing a bandage? This is the first of four ‘art mysteries’ addressed by Waldemar Januszczak in his succinct new series. It’s essentially a pocket biography, one that pointedly probes Van Gogh’s relationship with religion and women.
DEMOLITION TEAM Scrap Kings, 9pm, Quest
THIS unexpectedly compelling series returns with a dramatic project — the demolition of the huge towers at the coal-fired Ironbridge power plant in Shropshire. The show tries to flesh out what the building means to the community, which makes it more interesting than many programmes of this kind.
Lost Sitcoms: Hancock’s Half Hour, 10pm, BBC4
A LEAN and mildly sinister re-creation of a wiped episode from 1957, in which Tony’s (Kevin McNally) curtaintwitching over a new neighbour leads him into danger. Jon Culshaw and Robin Sebastian’s full-throttle impressions of Sid James and Kenneth Williams are the highlights.
