Key issues facing Nicola Sturgeon, pictured, the SNP and the Scottish Government:

1 Nicola Sturgeon referred herself for investigation in January 2019 to find out if she breached the ministerial code of conduct when she held a series of private meetings and conversations with Mr Salmond about the allegations against him but this was delayed because of fears it may ‘unintentionally prejudice live criminal proceedings’. When will it be launched?

2 Will Alex Salmond be allowed to return as an SNP member?

3 It was claimed during the trial that Nicola Sturgeon met Geoff Aberdein, Mr Salmond’s former chief of staff, after the complaints were made about her predecessor. Why did she not previously disclose this?

4 Were the complaints discussed with Mr Aberdein prior to her first meeting with Mr Salmond on April 2, 2018? If so, did she mislead parliament by saying she didn’t know about the complaints until that meeting?

5 Did her inner circle make concerted efforts to help the police case, as Mr Salmond’s defence team argued?

6 Why did the Scottish Government Permanent Secretary Leslie Evans text a civil servant after Mr Salmond won a judicial review about the handling of complaints against him saying: ‘We may have lost the battle – but we will win the war’?

7 Why did a Scottish Government minister text an SNP official to say that a ‘council of war’ made up of special advisers was convened.

8 Does Nicola Sturgeon still have confidence in Mrs Evans?

9 Does Miss Sturgeon agree with another text from the minister that suggested Mr Salmond wants to bring her down?

10 Should Ian McCann, an SNP compliance officer, be suspended after responding to a woman who was making allegations about Mr Salmond by saying: ‘I appreciate how difficult that must have been. I will sit on that and hopefully never have to deploy it.’ Did Mr McCann inform Miss Sturgeon or SNP chief executive Peter Murrell about the allegation?
