Undisputed middleweight champion: 1980-87. Legally changed his name to Marvelous Marvin Hagler in 1982, at which point it was discovered that he lied about his age so he could start boxing. Lost his very first amateur fight — to Dale Grant — on March 22, 1973.
Amateur record: 55-1-0. Pro record: 62 wins (52 KO), 3 losses (0 KO) and 2 draws. Win: 93 per cent. KO: 78 per cent.
Debut: May 18, 1973. Middleweight v Terry Ryan — win via second-round KO.
Hagler has the highest knockout percentage of any undisputed middleweight champion.
His reign of six years and seven months as undisputed middleweight champion is the second-longest of the 20th Century. Only Tony Zale held the titles longer — though some of his time was in inactive years due to World War Two.
Ahead of his superfight with Sugar Ray Leonard, the WBA stripped Hagler of their title after he opted to face Leonard — who came out of retirement to take on Hagler — instead of his mandatory challenger, Herol Graham.

27 IT was in his 27th professional bout that Hagler lost for the first time — he had drawn once before — to Bobby Watts. 54 AT Wembley, Hagler beat Alan Minter with a third-round KO to claim the WBA, WBC, Ring and Lineal titles. It was his 54th pro fight.
