Born: March 4, 1951. Transfer from Celtic to Liverpool in 1977 was a then-British record fee of £440,000.

Scotland’s record cap holder with 102, and is the national team’s joint-leading scorer alongside Denis Law on 30.

Won the Ballon D’Or silver award in 1983, as Michel Platini picked up the top prize.

The second-most decorated British footballer in history with 29 trophies, ahead of the likes of Billy McNeill (23), Alan Hansen (22) and Richard Gough (19). Only Ryan Giggs (34) has more.

Named PFA Players’ Player of the Year for the 1982/83 season.

In 2009, Dalglish was named the greatest striker in post-war Britain by

FourFourTw­o magazine. Has been inducted into the English, Scottish and European Halls of Fame.

Received an honorary degree from the University of Ulster in 2011.

Among a number of Hillsborou­gh campaigner­s who were awarded the Freedom of the City of Liverpool in 2016.

In 2017, Liverpool renamed their Centenary Stand the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand.

Awarded an MBE in 1985, before receiving a Knighthood in 2018.

Currently on the Liverpool board as a non-executive director.

Played 102 times for his country over a 15-year period. Made his debut for Scotland as a substitute in the Euro 1972 qualifying win over Belgium at Pittodrie. Got his first internatio­nal goal a year later in a World Cup qualifying win against Denmark at Hampden. Played at the 1974 and 1978 World Cups, featuring in all matches against Zaire, Brazil, Yugoslavia, Peru, Iran and the Netherland­s, against whom he netted in a famous 3-2 win. Found the net for the last time at internatio­nal level in a 3-1 World Cup qualifying win over Spain in November 1984, making his last appearance for his country in a 3-0 win over Luxembourg at Hampden in 1986.
