Why has Radio 2 become such a turn-off?

-

THE Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on Radio 2 has lost nearly a million listeners since she replaced Chris Evans (Mail). I’m not surprised at these falling listening figures. I’m convinced that Vanessa Feltz and Zoe Ball have a contest every morning to see who can say the most words in one minute. Slow down so we can understand you. c. cLArKe, newport, isle of Wight. hOW many of the missing million listeners are the older generation who prefer melodic tunes rather than screeching rap music? rOnALD BALL, Farnborough, hants.

WHOSE idea was it to choose Zoe Ball to take over the slot once filled by Terry Wogan? It’s a waste of time and money even trying.

ZOe losing one million listeners? Make that one million and one. JAcK hODGKinsOn, reading, Berks.

BABBLING Zoe Ball’s schoolgirl presentation is irritating. Her inane comments are galling as is her tendency to talk over her guests. Is it necessary to address callers as ‘darling’ and to tell them ‘we love you’? Can Ms Ball also stop constantly gasping for breath as she rambles on. If only we could bring back dear old Terry Wogan or even Chris Evans.

I AGree with Jan Moir that the manic wittering on radio 2 is pathetic. It’s only worth tuning in for Ken Bruce. At least there is music between the comments of the presenters. I can only assume that

because the BBC has no need to appeal to nor maintain its audience since it receives revenue no matter what it does that it simply doesn’t bother. It needs to earn its income in a commercial environment. Until then, the listeners are an irrelevance.

THE loss of radio listeners is nothing to do with the fact the presenters are female, but is because the BBC seems intent on alienating listeners over 30. As a long-time listener to Radio 5, I enjoyed clever conversations between presenter, listeners and guests. Now we are treated to lads and their mates having a laugh together with private in-jokes. hiLArY sPeiGhT, Fairburn, n. Yorks.
