Stay home – in style

Plunge into a new life in this luxury pad with a pool, says Paul Drury

IT could provide a blueprint for the ideal post-Covid home, a place in the country within dashing distance of the city. While more work will undoubtedly be done remotely, the office meeting will not be entirely replaced by conference calls on Zoom.

For that reason Chapelhill in Stewarton, Ayrshire, could have been built to accommodate the ‘new normal’.

It sits only 15 miles from Glasgow, close to the start of the M77 at Fenwick, which provides rapid access to the city centre if you need to attend a vital meeting.

Yet, for those days when you can do your shift in your slippers, Chapelhill offers a beautiful countryside setting with more than a little touch of luxury.

A highlight of the L-shaped 10,700 sq ft family home is the leisure suite boasting a 40ft heated indoor swimming pool, gym and changing rooms.

Picture windows and French doors leading to the garden create a bright space in which to relax.

Historically, Stewarton was associated closely with the wool trade and for centuries was known as the ‘bonnet town’ for the variety of headgear that it produced. Today, you would doff your hat at Chapelhill’s living accommodation, especially the split-level drawing room, which sports a fully-glazed gable.

The raised section has room for a dining table with adjoining wellstocked bar, which would guarantee a successful dinner party (social distancing rules permitting).

A bespoke diner/kitchen comes with Silestone worktops, luxury units and Siemens appliances. Patio doors lead to an outside decking area, ideal for entertaining guests on summer evenings.

Four bedrooms lie to the right of the entrance hall – three with en suite showers – as well as a family bathroom and utility room.

A staircase with floor-to-ceiling window leads up to another bedroom and the spacious master suite, with dressing room and en suite bathroom. Changed days mean that many families may have to consider having an elderly relative coming to stay with them permanently.

Above its multi-car garage, Chapelhill has the ideal solution – a self-contained apartment, with sitting room, two bedrooms and bathroom.

The rear gardens consist of a combination of attractive lawns, patios and decked areas. There is also a substantial outbuilding, which could be put to a wide variety of uses.

Another advantage of the home’s location is that the stunning Ayrshire coastline lies less than 20 minutes away.

Peter Walker, of selling agent Savills, said: ‘Quite apart from the enviably private, scenic location and the sheer size of this ultracomfortable property, the presentation and décor inside are a real testament to the dedication of the sellers who have lavished a great deal on this very special home.’

The Scottish Government is promising a pathway out of the pandemic. Until then, enjoy luxury in lockdown.
