It’s a snip! Naga’s DIY haircut

Goodbye curls: Naga Munchetty cuts her hair over the sink. Left: The TV presenter before

WITH her hair normally kept neatly cropped, Naga Munchetty was clearly missing a trip to the hairdresser more than most of us.

So when her lockdown locks got too unruly, she took matters – well, scissors – into her own hands.

The BBC Breakfast presenter – who before social distancing rules came in would have been able to rely on professional make-up artists at the TV studio to tidy her hair – gave herself a DIY trim, leaning over the bathroom sink and carefully snipping away while looking in the mirror.

She shared photographs on social media, writing: ‘Couldn’t bear the curly bits misbehaving any more.’ Yesterday Miss Munchetty, 45, showed off the result on Breakfast, telling co-host Charlie Stayt: ‘I couldn’t take it any more. I just started on the sides because I was frustrated with the curly bits and then I just went mad. I think I did OK. It’s neat, there are no chunks out of it.’

Later Health Secretary Matt Hancock revealed that hairdressers could be allowed to reopen earlier than July 4, the current plan, if they wear gloves and face masks.

Mr Hancock told ITV’s This Morning he wants to see salons back in business provided it is safe. The Hair and Barber Council has said its members could be ready to reopen on June 15.

Mr Hancock, who revealed that his wife has been cutting his hair, said: ‘We are working on what it would look like to have the protective equipment in place.

‘We’re doing everything we can to support them through what is inevitably an incredibly difficult time.’
