Nick to pay ex-MP £24k after abuse lies

- By Stephen Wright Associate News Editor

THE VIP abuse fantasist known as ‘Nick’ must pay nearly £24,000 that he fraudulently obtained in criminal injuries compensation to one of those he falsely accused of being a child sex killer, a court ruled yesterday.

Carl Beech, 52, who conned officials into granting him a payout – and used the money to buy a new Ford Mustang – must surrender £23,960 to former Tory MP Harvey Proctor within three months or risk being jailed for a further year.

Mr Proctor, along with former Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath, former home secretary Leon Brittan and ex-head of the Armed Forces Lord Bramall, were wrongly alleged by Beech to have been members of an Establishment child sex ring which attacked him in the 1970s and 1980s.

After his lies were exposed, Beech was jailed for 18 years last July for perverting the course of justice, fraud, voyeurism and child porn offences.

Now the paedophile is facing financial ruin after an assets confiscation hearing yesterday at Sheffield Crown Court, where he was ordered to give the cash to Mr Proctor. Adrian Phillips, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: ‘The compensation money given to Beech was meant to support him following the extensive, sustained torture by high-profile people that he made up and described to police.

‘Causing unimaginable distress to the men he falsely accused and the families caught up in his deception, he gladly took money from the authorities knowing he had fabricated the entire tale.

‘Confiscating this money will not undo the harm of his lies, but it is the final step in making sure Beech does not profit from the shameful false allegations he made.’ Mr Proctor, who won a £500,000 out-ofcourt settlement from the Met over the bungled Operation Midland probe, welcomed the decision that he should receive his disgraced accuser’s confiscated assets.

He said: ‘I am grateful that the judge has recognised the losses that Operation Midland and Mr Beech have caused me.’

It also emerged yesterday Beech has abandoned his appeal against his conviction for lying about the existence of a paedophile ring. Appeal judges will now consider his ongoing appeal against his 18-year jail sentence.
