Parents of fer £20k reward to find girl’s killer after 27 years
‘Please do the right thing’
THE parents of a teenager found murdered 27 years ago are offering a £20,000 reward to help bring her killer to justice.
Christina Menzies, 16, was strangled after a night out at RAF Gutersloh, in Germany, where her father, Staff Sergeant John Menzies, was stationed.
She visited Club 47, a disco located at the base, on the night of Saturday, June 12, 1993, and never returned home. Her body was found around six miles away the following day.
Mr Menzies and his wife Christine, from Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire, have joined with the charity Crimestoppers to offer a reward of up to £20,000 for information leading to the killer’s conviction.
They are appealing for information about Christina’s whereabouts between leaving the club at around midnight and the discovery of her body at 4.45pm, on Sunday, June 13.
Her black leather shoes with a cross-over securing strap and metal buckle were missing when the body was discovered.
Investigators are also keen for information about a Union Flag duvet cover, which may have been used to cover or move her body. Crimestoppers said someone may have withheld information about the killing because they did not want others to know they were there or because they were protecting friends.
Mrs Menzies said: ‘We know people’s loyalties can change over time and we desperately hope that when nudged, someone’s conscience will be nagging them to set the record straight.’
Mr Menzies added: ‘If you know anything that can help the investigation and get justice for our much-loved daughter, then please do the right thing and speak up.
‘You can contact the Royal Military Police or, if you prefer to stay 100 per cent anonymous and maybe eligible for the reward, then contact the charity Crimestoppers.
‘There can’t be anything worse than not knowing what happened to your loved one in these circumstances. Our daughter never came home, and 27 years on we still have no answers as to what happened or who is responsible.’
Christina, who was a boarder at Lomond School in Helensburgh, Dunbartonshire, had joined her parents in Germany in the summer of 1993.
A serving soldier was tried for the murder at a court martial in 1994 and acquitted.
Two years ago, on the anniversary of his daughter’s death, Mr Menzies said: ‘The last 24 years has been the worst of my life. I just want closure.
‘My daughter was a lovely, kind person. At the time, she hadn’t long come back from boarding school – it was great to have her part of the family again. She hoped to become a social worker as she cared about people and loved children.
‘I just want answers for my little girl.’
