EMMA WATSON: THE FEMINIST DISNEY PRINCESS

-

WATSON, 30, is the Queen of Woke. Before this row, she had set up a forum for men to talk about gender inequality, donated £1 million to the #MeToo cause, said she was ‘self-partnered’ and got involved in the Black Lives Matter movement.

She tweeted: ‘Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are.’

Watson (left, and right as Hermione Granger) added: ‘I want my trans followers to know that I and so many other people around the world see you, respect you and love you for who you are.’

One Twitter user replied: ‘You were great in Little Menstruators’ — a joke about last year’s Little Women film in which she played Meg March, who chose to be a full-time mother and wife. Watson reasoned in interviews that Meg had made the choice, which was in itself ‘feminist’.

In a similar vein, she said she had been conflicted about playing a Disney Princess in Beauty And The Beast, but had insisted that Belle should be the kind of maiden who wore boots and invented a washing machine, which made her domestic servitude, followed by a transformative marriage, perfectly acceptable.

This week, she urged followers to donate to transgender pressure group Mermaids, which she supports.

She also told her 57 million Instagram followers that she would use her social media platform to tackle ‘structural and institutional racism’.

Worth £52million, she once said that when she discovered how much money she’d been paid for the Potter films, she was sick. She is dating Californian businessman Leo Robinton.
