I’d like to try tango — but draw the line at Morris dancing

SEPARATED for 11 years, with two daughters and one granddaughter.

CURRENT ROLE

BUILDING society worker.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET

A MAN who is well educated and can make me laugh. Ideally he’ll be a fan of motor racing and be able to cook. He must like grandchildren and have get-up-and-go.

DATING PAST?

I WAS married for 28 years, but i’ve been on my own for 11 years. i have dabbled with online dating and, while it was fun, i’d prefer to meet someone the old-fashioned way.

i haven’t been out with anyone for two-and-a-half years now, which is probably why my friend put me forward for this. Lockdown has made me feel quite alone.

PRE-DATE NERVES?

I WAS nervous just thinking about it. My tummy churned all afternoon. i put on a colourful shirt, applied make-up and even added a squirt of perfume. i did think about wearing heels, but my Ugg boots won out.

i made a practice call so i could get the angles right on my laptop, but we ended up using our phones.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS?

DAVID looked very smart in a new azure shirt. i noticed he wore glasses with very thick frames and had rather bushy eyebrows. Unfortunately he doesn’t have any hair, which can be a bit of a dealbreaker for me.

EASY TO TALK TO?

DAVID talked a lot about himself in the three hours we were together. after 90 minutes, i suspected i knew everything about him.

i told him i enjoy indie music, but he didn’t know what that was — he prefers musicals. he mentioned he has a piano and trombone at home, but doesn’t actually play them, which i found bizarre.

i enjoy dancing and would love to learn the tango, while david does Morris dancing. i’d give line dancing a go, but i draw the line at wearing bells and waving hankies.

EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?

NONE at all.

DID SPARKS FLY?

THERE was no sexual chemistry. david clearly has a heart of gold — he’s very much part of his village community — i just didn’t fancy him. he’s only a year older than me, but it seemed like much more.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET IN PERSON?

NO. i’d rather meet someone who acts my age. i was disappointed.

WHAT DO YOU THINK HE THOUGHT OF YOU?

HE MIGHT think i’m not very interesting, because i didn’t get to talk about myself. While he complimented me on my shirt, i didn’t have a moment to talk about what makes me the woman i am, such as my love of motor racing.

WOULD YOUR FAMILY LIKE HIM?

DAVID can get on with anyone, but my friends and family would know he is not for me.
