Derby weigh up move for Gordon
DERBY COUNTY have entered the race to snap up unsettled Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon. As Sportsmail first revealed last week, the 37-year-old is weighing up a return to his first club Hearts after rejecting St Mirren. Unhappy with the terms on offer to re-sign at Celtic, however, the Scotland international is also wanted by Phillip Cocu’s Championship side. Rams’ loan keeper Ben Hamer is set to return to Huddersfield at the end of the season. High-earner Scott Carson, meanwhile, has spent this season on loan at Manchester City — with Pep Guardiola keen to secure him for another year. With Celtic pursuing another deal for Fraser Forster, Gordon is tempted by a return to Hearts even if the Edinburgh side’s joint legal action with Partick Thistle ends in relegation to the Championship. Admitting talks with the Parkhead hierarchy are likely to end in his departure after six years in Glasgow, he said: ‘The negotiations haven’t been particularly good, I’ve got to be honest. ‘It has dragged out and I feel it could have been handled an awful lot better. ‘I’ve had a fantastic time there over the six years and I still want to be able to speak to them and see what they have to offer and what they’re thinking about my role for next season — if they want me to stay there. ‘There’s still a little bit of chat to be had there, but I’d have liked things to have been sorted out before now. ‘But with that said, it does now leaves the door open for someone else to make an offer.’
