OLE: MASON’S BETTER THAN ME

- By CHRIS WHEELER

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER says 18-year-old Mason Greenwood is a better player than he was at that age, and says the ‘sky is the limit’ for the Manchester United striker. Greenwood scored his 13th goal of the season in Tuesday’s win at Brighton and provided an excellent assist for Bruno Fernandes. He is making a strong claim to start on the right wing ahead of Daniel James, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard, although United are still expected to launch a bid for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho this summer. ‘Mason is way ahead of what I was at 18 or 19, that’s for sure,’ said Solskjaer, who scored 126 goals in an 11-year career at Old Trafford. ‘He’s got a knack of scoring goals, it’s natural for him and what I could do as well. ‘The sky’s the limit, it’s up to him. I don’t think it puts any more pressure on him. He’s not coming in as the saviour, he’s coming in to learn. He’s a boy who can still play in this season’s FA Youth Cup. He’s just taken it in his stride.’ United face Bournemouth at Old Trafford today looking to step up their bid for a top-four finish but Solskjaer warned that United must make the right decisions in the transfer market this summer to ensure they don’t lose momentum next season. As well as chasing Sancho and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, they must also resolve the futures of three players out on loan: Alexis Sanchez; Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo. Solskjaer added: ‘Players who want to sign, if they don’t feel right as a person you close the door. Players who are inside who don’t want to contribute to the team ethos, then you let them leave.’
