STRAIGHT TO THE POINT

-

LAST November, I bought £80 worth of vouchers from Shearings to spend on a coach holiday this summer. Can I make a chargeback claim now the firm has gone into administration?

E. S., via email. yes, but you must do so before the firm is liquidated, so it is vital your bank acts quickly. If it fails to do so you may have a case against the bank. MY DAUGHTER is shielding due to breast cancer. She has an insurance policy with Domestic & General, which covers the maintenance and replacement of her home appliances.

Her fridge-freezer stopped working on March 12, but after several cancellations she is still waiting for a new one, despite having paid a third party more than £130 for installation.

D. B., Pembrokeshire.

DOMESTIC & General apologises for the inconvenience and says it has offered a full refund, along with installation of the new machine and removal of the old one. HAS Barclaycard stopped accepting cheques sent by post? When I tried to make a credit card payment, I called the bank and an operator told me that was the case.

A. R., Somerset.

BARCLAYCARD says you were misinformed, as it still accepts cheques. It will investigate to ensure this does not happen again. WHEN my husband died in March, I reported his death to British Gas. The firm is still sending emails addressed to him and I can’t access my account online.

S. G., Sittingbourne, Kent.

BRITISH Gas updated your details on its main database, but failed to change them on another system linked to online accounts. The supplier has now corrected this and helped you set up a new online account. It has also sent you £40 as an apology.
