Should face masks in shops be compulsory?

-

I AM disappointed that Boris Johnson has made it compulsory to wear face masks in shops from July 24. This seems like a strange measure to bring in months into the pandemic. Is there evidence to suggest virus transmission happens in shops, given that people have been going to supermarkets throughout lockdown? I am more than happy to wear a mask on public transport, in healthcare settings or in other situations where there is prolonged close contact with others. But to be denied the choice to exercise judgment in other circumstances feels like an attack on my personal liberty. Personal interactions in shops are fleeting and counter staff are well protected by screens. It seems ridiculous to have to wear a mask to pop to the corner shop while being able to spend hours in a pub or restaurant without one.

MICHAEL GOVE called on the public to use their common sense. What common sense is he relying on when we see many people wearing face masks under their chin, neither covering their mouth or nose?

WHY all the controversy about face masks? Have we lost the ability to think for ourselves, to make our own decisions and take responsibility for our own health? Wear a face mask to protect others and feel safe.

ENTERING a crowded place during a pandemic without wearing a face mask is like crossing a busy road without looking right and left.

PUTTING on a mask in shops should be the same as putting on your seat belt when you get in a car.
