Police told to stop using ‘jihadi’ to describe attacks

-

POLICE have been asked to drop the terms ‘Islamist terrorism’ and ‘jihadis’ when describing attacks carried out by people who claim to be motivated by the Islamic faith.

The changes were proposed by a Muslim police association that claimed official use of the expressions gave rise to Islamophobia. alternative terms that have been suggested include ‘faith-claimed terrorism’, ‘terrorists abusing religious motivations’ and ‘adherents of Osama bin Laden’s ideology’, The Times reported. Police chiefs have stressed that there are currently no plans to alter the official terminology.

THE Union is at its strongest in times of crisis and has shown its true value throughout the pandemic. But Nationalists, hellbent on wrecking it, haven’t wasted any opportunity to sow seeds of division.

While coronavirus claimed lives and dealt a massive blow to the economy, the SNP has prospered in the polls. Separatists seek to present independence as an escape route from an oppressive Tory regime.

The reality is that the UK Government’s furlough scheme has thrown a financial lifeline to many thousands of Scots.

So it is encouraging that the Conservatives are finally waking up to the growing threat to the Union. Boris Johnson, heading north this week, must highlight the myriad advantages of an alliance that has endured for more than 300 years.

Matching words with actions, he should prioritise investment in infrastructure to boost an economy reeling from coronavirus, and years of SNP mismanagement.

Our cherished Union has proved its worth over the centuries – but its supporters must be prepared to fight for its future.
