‘Depp hurled 30 bottles at Amber like grenades’

Depp’s attack left me with tons of injuries, she tells court

- By Sam Greenhill Chief Reporter AFTER ‘ATTACK’

AMBER Heard suffered black eyes, a broken nose and a busted lip as Johnny Depp slapped and headbutted her and tore her hair, she said yesterday.

She looked fine when she appeared on television on James Corden’s Late Late Show the following evening because her make-up covered the injuries, she told the High Court.

The actress, 34, denied fabricating her wounds, telling the hearing: ‘I had tons of injuries.’

As well as hitting and butting her, Depp tore out clumps of her hair in the attack at their Los Angeles penthouse on December 15, 2015, she alleged.

‘He very deliberately clenched his fists, leaned back and slammed his head directly into mine, into my nose.

‘I had two black eyes, a broken nose, a broken lip. There was chunks of hair missing, there was pus in those wounds in my hairline and dark red bruises on my temples and on my chin. And my upper lip is cut.’

Eleanor Laws QC, for Depp, branded Miss Heard a liar and said her claims were ‘nonsense’.

As the court viewed a clip of the Late Late Show from December 16, 2015, Miss Laws asked the actress: ‘That’s what you look like on the show isn’t it? No injury, is there?’

Miss Heard insisted she had ‘tons’ of injuries.

The QC said: ‘You didn’t have a split lip.’

The actress replied: ‘The reason I wore that lipstick and make-up was to cover it. You can tell by the size of the lipstick alone.’

Miss Heard’s neighbour Joshua

Drew, the fiance of her friend Rocky Pennington, said he saw Miss Heard on the night of the row and the day after.

‘She had bruising around both eyes which extended down the bridge of her nose and her forehead was red,’ he told the court via videolink from Los Angeles.

‘I remember her being terrified about how she looked because she had to appear on TV that day or the next day and her injuries were visible – but she couldn’t pull out of it.

‘Melanie Inglessis, her make-up artist, was brought over to try to cover up her injuries.’

Miss Inglessis, 44, then told the court: ‘We had no other choice but to do a bright red lip[stick] to cover the injury on her lip.

‘Those bruises, they were not that dark or inflamed yet. I don’t remember having trouble covering them.’ She then added: ‘I’m not lying.’

Miss Heard was accused of faking a photo of the clump of hair allegedly ripped out by Depp.

Miss Laws put it to her: ‘If someone is pulling your hair out, they will do it at the root – it will come out at the root. There’s no root that we can see on any of the hairs in that photo. This is a complete set-up photo.’

Miss Heard replied: ‘No, of course not.’

She added: ‘This is just one of the many clumps of hair Johnny pulled out that night.’ On day 12 of Depp’s libel claim against The Sun newspaper for calling him a ‘wife beater’, Miss Heard was forced to admit ‘a mistake’ over a photograph of a splintered door.

She had claimed it happened when Depp attacked her on his private island in the Bahamas in August 2014.

Conceding it was taken at another time, she said: ‘This is a different door he kicked.’

The court was told last week that the actress, who starred in the 2018 film Aquaman, had mocked Depp, 57, as ‘fat’ and ‘washed up’.

It heard she had also told him that ‘your career is over, no one is going to hire you’ during a ferocious row on his island on December 29, 2015.

Yesterday Miss Heard said: ‘Those words were said – but it was Johnny saying that to me. He continued to say them to me even after the divorce.’

A witness to their argument, island manager Tara Roberts, said she saw Miss Heard ‘lunge violently’ at Depp and berate him in an ‘onslaught’ of abuse.

Miss Roberts said Depp had a ‘red, swelling gash’ on his nose from Miss Heard hurling a ‘can of lacquer thinner’ at him.

Miss Heard told the judge: ‘I did throw a can of something, I threw it in Johnny’s direction as I was running away from him with my back to him, so I don’t know if it made contact with him.

‘He had just threatened my life and sexually assaulted me.’

Miss Laws said: ‘Just another lie isn’t it, Miss Heard?’ She replied: ‘No, of course not.’ The trial continues.

‘Terrified about how she looked’
