Beer, curry and Palace at home!
Wills enjoys boys’ night in for Peter Crouch podcast
PRINCE William enjoyed a laughter-filled boys’ night in with football hero Peter Crouch, downing a few pints and tucking into a curry delivered to his Kensington Palace home.
The Duke of Cambridge joked about Palace security after answering the door for the meal.
He said: ‘There’s an Uber driver out there on the floor being frisked.’
Pictures released yesterday show the prince serving his guests from That Peter Crouch Podcast food on a silver platter. The podcast was recorded at the palace before lockdown in March and featured a catch-up video call earlier this month.
During the chat, William revealed his favourite dish, saying: ‘Chicken masala – love that, a bit of flavour. I’m not a vindaloo man, put it that way.’
The meal came from former England star Crouch’s local Indian restaurant in Ealing, west London. The duke has been spearheading the Heads Up camThe paign to get football fans talking about mental health. In the wide-ranging chat, he revealed he enjoyed a stag party in Blackpool, Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody is his go-to karaoke song and binoculars given to now wife Kate as an early courtship present were not well-received.
Aston Villa fan William also talked about his hopes that son George, seven, might one day be a footballer. Asked if he could combine royal life with a career at Villa, he replied: ‘Definitely, I reckon he could. I reckon he could be their all-time leading goal scorer. I can see no reason why not. It would be brilliant.’
When Crouch and the team asked FA President William if he might get rid of England boss Gareth Southgate after a bad run of games, he said: ‘That might be a bit difficult!’ He stressed: ‘Gareth is a legend. I really like Gareth and I think he’s doing a great job with the England team.’ podcast group enjoyed drinks as they chatted, with most guests sipping Guinness while William enjoyed what appeared to be a pint of lager. Whisky was also on offer. The conversation turned to the worst presents bought for a partner and Crouch, 39, confessed to buying his model wife Abbey Clancy a raincoat three years running. William said: ‘I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once – she’s never let me forget that. That was early on in the courtship, that was – think that sealed the deal.’ With Crouch laughing, he added: ‘It didn’t go well. Honestly, I have no idea why I bought her a pair of binoculars. It seemed like a good idea at the time.’
During the chat, which also featured podcast co-presenters Tom Fordyce and Chris Stark, William was asked about his favourite song to sing in public. He admitted: ‘I haven’t sung karaoke for a while now, but probably Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. It’s one of the few songs I know all the lyrics to.’
On the Heads Up campaign, the duke said: ‘We all have mental health and we all have to stay mentally fit. It’s a strength to talk about your mental health, it’s not a weakness. .’
Saturday’s clash between Arsenal and Chelsea has been named the Head Up FA Cup final to highlight the campaign. The podcast is available now.
