STEP BY STEP ON ROAD OUT OF LOCKDOWN

The shielding programme will be paused in Scotland, meaning those previously shielding can now follow general Covid-19 advice.

AUGUST 3

Routine eye care services can resume, with optometry practices to reopen fully and home visits now allowed. Restrictio­ns will be relaxed for sports coaching and support groups, with guidance in place for social distancing.

AUGUST 11

Schools can welcome children back full-time, with all to be open by August 18 at the latest. Guidance has been issued to councils and schools ahead of pupils’ return to the classroom.

AUGUST 17

Emergency dental care can resume, including aerosolgen­erating NHS procedures. This includes fillings.

AUGUST 24 (indicative date)

Live events can be held outdoors with social distancing and restricted numbers.

Bingo halls will be allowed to reopen, as will funfairs, amusement arcades and casinos. All must ensure enhanced hygiene and physical distancing.

Snooker and pool halls and indoor bowling greens can welcome back customers and organised contact sport can start outdoors.

Driving lessons can resume.

NOT BEFORE SEPTEMBER 11

Non-essential offices will get the go-ahead to allow workers back, with physical distancing and enhanced hygiene measures in place. However, the default advice will be for employers to keep staff working from home if possible.

SEPTEMBER 14 (indicative date)

Indoor gyms should get the go-ahead to reopen with enhanced hygiene and new distancing measures.

Swimming pools and soft play areas can open, with indoor sports courts including tennis, skating and dance studios allowed to resume.

Theatres, live music and concert venues can begin staging events.

A limited reopening of sporting stadiums will be allowed. Strict guidance will be issued, such as physical distancing and restrictio­ns on numbers.
