Did Harry really say ‘What the hell’ to Queen in row over bride’s tiara?
ClAImS that Prince Harry called the Queen and took her to task over meghan’s choice of wedding tiara have been disputed by royal sources.
omid Scobie, co-author of the controversial book Finding Freedom, said a furious Harry – who believed his fiancee was being deliberately snubbed by palace aides – phoned his grandmother shortly before the couple’s wedding in 2018 and demanded to know ‘what the hell’ was going on.
The incident, dubbed Tiaragate, has been widely reported in the Press, with well-placed sources saying meghan had been ‘difficult’ about her choice of tiara and was unhappy that the Queen had declined her first choice. In the new biography mr Scoclaim
‘Known for flying off the handle’
bie insists that meghan had actually been very happy with the tiara she was lent by the Queen and maintains the ‘drama’ started afterwards.
He claims that the Queen’s righthand woman, her senior dresser and curator Angela Kelly, was deliberately obstructive. when meghan asked to try on the tiara again with her hairstylist present a few weeks before the wedding, miss Kelly refused to facilitate a meeting.
He said Harry became so angry at meghan being ‘thwarted’ like this that he called the Queen to complain. Speaking to True Royalty TV, mr Scobie said: ‘Harry had to intervene. He called his grandmother and said, “I don’t know what the hell is going on. This woman needs to make this work for my future wife”.’ The that Harry confronted his grandmother was not made in the book itself, but in an interview to publicise the biography, which was published last week.
Yesterday royal sources expressed surprise at the claims but said that if true, Harry had shown ‘deep disrespect’ to his grandmother.
one palace insider said: ‘The recollection of events in the book [regarding the tiara incident] is not something that others recognise.’
They added: ‘only two people know what was said on this phone call, if it happened at all, and I can tell you that one of them [Her majesty The Queen] would never discuss it.’
Another royal source told the mail: ‘Harry is known for flying off the handle very easily but I do struggle to believe that he spoke to his granny like that. He has enormous respect for her.’
