QPR boss expecting Dykes to pick Scots

- By MARK WILSON

MARK WARBURTON expects Lyndon Dykes to commit his international future to Scotland and become a key player for Steve Clarke’s side. The QPR boss confirmed he was on the brink of securing the £2million addition of Dykes after Livingston accepted an offer over the weekend. The 24-year-old striker has travelled to London to undergo a medical and complete the formalities on his move. Born on Australia’s Gold Coast to Scottish parents, Dykes has yet to publicly confirm which country he will represent. Clarke reported ‘positive talks’ earlier this year and Warburton believes he can progress to be a hero to the Tartan Army. ‘I think he will go on to become an international player for Scotland and be their No 9,’ the former Ibrox boss told Sky Sports. ‘He’s got huge potential. He probably didn’t benefit from an academy education, so he’s hungry to learn. He’s got a good physical presence, he’s a willing worker and has lots of ability. I’m really looking forward — hopefully, if everything goes through — to working with him.’ Meanwhile, Craig Sibbald believes youngster Jack Hamilton is a contender to be Dykes’ long-term replacement at Livingston. The 20-year-old started up front in Sunday’s stalemate against Rangers before being replaced in the second half. While admitting he is still short on experience, midfielder Sibbald sees a lot of the necessary attributes in a player who spent last season on loan at Queen of the South. ‘There are boys there, like Jack,’ said Sibbald. ‘There’s no reason why he can’t do it but I am sure Davie (Martindale) and the gaffer will be looking to strengthen as well. ‘Jack won a few headers against Rangers and puts himself about as well. He’s definitely got it in him and, with a bit of experience, he can get there. ‘Lyndon is going to be a big loss. He’s been massive for Livvy. He deserves the move and hopefully he does well there. Hopefully we can get someone else in and strengthen our team as well. Personally, he is one of my best pals in the changing room. ‘That’s football, you make pals and they move on. I’m disappointed to lose a friend but I’m buzzing for him.’
