Nakarawa still missing for Glasgow

- By CALUM CROWE

GLASGOW WARRIORS star player Leone Nakarawa will be posted missing for the forthcoming derby double-header with Edinburgh — and head coach Danny Wilson admits he doesn’t know when the forward will return to Scotland from Fiji. Nakarawa spent lockdown

with his family back in his homeland as he and his wife awaited the birth of their first child at the end of July. He was then afforded special dispensation to remain there while his team-mates returned to training ahead of the resumption of the Pro14 season on Saturday. With that period of grace having now expired, Wilson insists Nakarawa must respect that agreement and return to the club in a timely fashion. The Fijian star and ex-European Player of the Year was controversially sacked from his previous club Racing 92 after going AWOL towards the end of last year. Wilson does not expect a repeat of that scenario, but he made it clear the onus is now on the player to return to Glasgow and get himself fit and up to speed. ‘Leone is not available,’ revealed Wilson. ‘Basically, what happened with him was his wife was due at the end of July. ‘So he’s been in Fiji and we gave him that grace to spend a little bit of extra time with his wife and family. It’s their first baby. ‘On top of that, the first flight out of Fiji was Sunday, I think. The flights have been locked down in Fiji as well. ‘I don’t think there will be any issues and I’m not foreseeing any issues — but you have to wait and see, don’t you?’ Warriors will travel to BT Murrayfield on Saturday, before returning to the national stadium for the second game just six days later. Asked if it’s now inevitable that Nakarawa will miss both of those games even if he does return later this week, Wilson said: ‘That’s fair to say, yes. ‘With all these boys, they’ve got to have the relevant time to return to training, return to rugby, to be safe.’
