INSPIRING STORIES Rising Phoenix, Netflix

THIS documentary explores the stories of Paralympians, with plenty of footage from London 2012. We hear from Team GB’s Jonnie Peacock, who had to ask his fans for quiet before the 100m clash with Oscar Pistorius.

CITY LIVING Monty Don’s Japanese Gardens, 8pm, BBC4

ATOMIC ARMS RACE War Factories, 8pm, Yesterday

THIS new episode focuses on an unusual war factory: the scientists who, spread out across the U.S., worked together to produce nuclear weapons — which no one had made before. With her customary turn of phrase, Alexandra Churchill describes it as ‘like herding cats’.

SPY THRILLER Condor 2, 9pm, Sky One

WHILE season one always seemed a bit hemmed in by the novel it was based on, Six Days Of The Condor, this second season has branched out and told its own distinctly darker and more interesting story. In this new episode, that takes another turn as Mae and Tracy disappear.

HOME GUARD Dad’s Army: The Lost Episodes, 9pm, Yesterday

THE Freeview premiere for this second of three splendidly re-created episodes. A fight for promotion between Jones (a perfect Kevin Eldon, pictured) and Frazer brings out the worst in Frazer, who starts waving a gun about. Not a good idea for a man with more whisky than blood in his veins.

DETECTIVE DRAMA Stumptown, 9pm, Alibi

DEX’S search for truth causes collateral damage in the season finale to this offbeat private eye drama. She pushes her relationship with Miles (Michael Ealy) to the limit — forcing him to choose between her and the police. There’s a cliffhanger for the second season here, but not an annoying one.

SNAKE MENACE Swamp People: Serpent Invasion, 10pm, Sky History

IN THE Seventies and Eighties, people dumped pet pythons in the Florida Everglades, and they bred. Today, the reptiles have become major pests, and this new reality series — billed as a ‘primordial battle between man and snake’ — follows the colourful characters who hunt them for state bounties.

HORROR FILM The Final Wish, 10pm, Sky Premiere

VETERAN scream queen Lin Shaye stars in this by-the-numbers horror as the recent widow whose husband left behind an antique urn that grants wishes — for a price.

FREEVIEW MOVIE The Woman In Black, 11.05pm, 5Star

ENGLISH Gothic ghost story, sturdily adapted from author Susan Hill’s bestseller. In his first post-Harry Potter role, Daniel Radcliffe tops the cast as a haunted man finding ghostly goings-on in a small coastal village and its misty marshes.
