Cox swaps burger van to become voice of McDonald’s
AS self-proclaimed ‘cheeseburger magnate’ Bob Servant, he served fast-food to the people of Dundee.
But now actor Brian Cox has swapped his trusty burger van for a corporate franchise after voicing advertisements for McDonald’s in the US.
Dundee-born Cox provided the voiceover for a series of commercials that were first aired during the Grammy Awards this year.
The 74-year-old can be heard waxing lyrical about McDonald’s quarter-pounders and the quality of its fries.
Cox extols the virtues of the burger, saying: ‘It’s perfect, made perfecter.’
Jennifer Healan, of McDonald’s, said: ‘We wanted a voice that could speak directly to our fans in a fun way.
‘There was no one better for this role than Brian Cox. He captures the passion of our customers’ food choices.’
The TV sitcom Bob Servant, written by Neil Forsyth, was first aired on BBC4 in 2013.
It followed the fortunes of a Dundee burger van owner who becomes a parliamentary candidate following the sudden death of a local MP.
The character takes to Twitter, sharing his wit and wisdom, celebrity encounters in Arbroath roller discos and his A-list girlfriends.
Cox was chosen for the adverts after playing media mogul Logan Roy in the HBO drama series Succession.
Earlier this year, he was removed as a patron for Dundee-based community group Mid-Lin Day Care Centre after he admitted smoking cannabis. He said he began smoking the drug 23 years ago to help him relax.
