Freezer killer caged

Monster who kept bodies of two women in flat is given life

- By Rebecca Camber Chief Crime Correspondent

A KILLER who bought a £169 freezer to hide the bodies of two of his victims for nearly three years was jailed for life yesterday.

Zahid Younis, 36, battered Henriett Szucs, 34, to death in 2016 before strangling his second victim Mihrican Mustafa, 38, and dumping her in the same freezer two years later.

The violent sex offender had a history of attacking women including girls as young as 13, Southwark Crown Court heard.

But his horrific crimes were only discovered when he was reported missing by a friend and police searching his filthy one-bedroom flat opened a freezer on a hunch after spotting a cloud of flies.

Officers said the bodies had been frozen for such a length of time that they had become fused together.

Yesterday there were questions about how Younis was able to get away with it for so long as he was a registered sex offender who was regularly monitored by police.

He had been in a relationship with first victim Miss Szucs, a Hungarian prostitute who came to the UK in 2012.

She moved in with Younis in March 2016, but he quickly became violent. She was last seen in August 2016 and is thought to have been killed days before Younis bought a Curry’s chest freezer on November 11.

Shockingly, just a day before buying the freezer, two officers had visited his flat in Canning Town, east London, to check up on him, while Miss Szucs’s body lay hidden in a cupboard.

His second victim, mother-ofthree Miss Mustafa was last seen alive in May 2018 after being spotted with Younis in the local area.

Known as ‘Boxer’, Younis had an appalling history of abusing women and imprisoning young girls, who were often forced into sex. He had previously been jailed for getting a 14-yearold pregnant after locking her in his flat and forcing her to marry him in a mosque when she was 13 and he was 20.

Younis also admitted common assault after he put the teenager in a headlock to drag her out of a supermarket. He was sentenced to four years, 11 months for breaking the arm of another 17year-old partner and threatening to set her family home on fire.

Another girlfriend who went on to have his child was locked in an airing cupboard for hours until she agreed to sex.

While Younis was in jail for theft

between September and November 2018 his electricity supply disconnected, contributing to the decomposition of the bodies in the freezer.

he did then return to the flat, but went on the run in april 2019. Weeks later, police responding to a missing person report found his padlocked freezer in a large cupboard.

Last night the Metropolitan Police confirmed that Younis had flouted sex offender monitoring conditions multiple times in 2018 and 2019, leading to a wanted notice being circulated for him in January 2019. Yet he was still living in his flat until the april. Scotland Yard has launched an internal inquiry into the case. having been found guilty of murder at trial, he yesterday refused to come out of his cell as he was sentenced to a minimum of 38 years.

Mrs Justice Cheema Grubb said the victims, who were both drug addicts and homeless, had fallen into Younis’s orbit when they were in a ‘low ebb’.

‘You are an arch deceiver,’ she said. ‘You have preyed upon the vulnerable with superficial charm. You are a heartless man and a narcissist.’
