Fowler in new Sky line-up

- By KIERAN GILL and DAN MATTHEWS

TONY PULIS, Tim Sherwood and Glen Johnson are set to replace Phil Thompson, Charlie Nicholas and Matt Le Tissier on Sky Sports’

Soccer Saturday this weekend. And Sky’s flagship show, hosted by Jeff Stelling, will also feature Paul Merson, Clinton Morrison and Sue Smith.

Sky have created a pool of pundits for Soccer Saturday this season and plan to change their line-ups weekly.

It can be revealed Robbie Fowler (below), Joleon Lescott, Glenn Murray and Matt Murray will appear on future programmes.

Thompson, 66, Nicholas, 58, and Le Tissier, 51, were sacked by Sky via individual Zoom calls. The long-serving trio had one year left on their contracts.

Stelling afterwards expressed his shock and revealed how he was considering his future at the show he has presented since 1994.

Merson also considered stepping down after learning of his colleagues’ departures.

Le Tissier, Thompson and Nicholas were the second regular punditry team with whom Stelling worked alongside, after the original line-up of George Best, Rodney Marsh and Clive Allen.

It remains to be seen whether Pulis, Sherwood and Johnson, along with Merson, Smith and potentially Morrison, will become a regular line-up on Saturdays.

Roving reporter Chris Kamara opened up about the reshuffle. ‘Obviously I’m gutted, absolutely gutted,’ he said of the decision to sack the trio. ‘And I know they are,’ Kamara, 62, told Sportsmail. ‘We were such a good team and it was all going well.

‘Decisions were made — we don’t have any say in those. Whoever made them has done it and the boys accept it.

‘I can honestly say they are the best fellas you could ever wish to meet. They are top-drawer and it’s been a great time to have worked with them over the past 15 years or so.’
