Change the record

-

NOW we know how Mike Russell and Ian Blackford have spent their summer — brushing up on their sabrerattling skills and dusting down their collection of broken records, with Grievance and Gimme Gimme Gimme their all-time favourites.

How is it that the SNP can be perfectly happy with rafts of powers controlled by Brussels, but when these powers come back to the UK and most are to be transferred to Holyrood, Cardiff and Belfast, they claim it is an attack on devolution?

Common rules and regulations were a major part of how the EU has operated during our 50 years of membership, and have ensured frictionless movement of goods, services and people around member states — the much vaunted EU single market.

The SNP were undoubtedly happy to have these regulations controlled by Brussels — so happy in fact that they want Scotland to rejoin the EU at the earliest date and give up all those new powers.

Of course what Messrs Russell and Blackford are really incensed by is the fact that the UK Government will establish a set of common rules and regulations to ensure continuation of the frictionless movement of goods, services and people around the entire

UK — our ‘internal market’. This will strengthen the integrity of the UK — but such an outcome is anathema to the SNP and their quest to break up the UK, and must be opposed at all costs.

The SNP will ensure Holyrood withholds consent so as to ensure a new grievance against the nasty Tories and Westminster.
