SHE perfected an American accent in hit TV show Stranger Things.

But British actress Millie Bobby Brown had to work hard to shake it off in her new – very English – film role.

After years of playing the character Eleven in the Netflix series, the rising star is now playing Sherlock Holmes’s sister Enola.

‘For the last five years I’ve been playing an American character in Stranger Things and I found it really challenging being British in this, even though I am a Brit,’ she told the Radio Times.

‘I had to learn how to speak again because I’m so used to speaking in an American accent.’

Miss Brown, 16, who has British parents, was born in Spain but split her childhood between the UK and the US.

The new film, also for Netflix, is based on Nancy Springer’s book series, which follows Enola’s mission after her mother Eudoria goes missing.

It stars Henry Cavill as Sherlock and Sam Claflin as his brother Mycroft, while Helena Bonham Carter plays Eudoria.

‘The film was mine and my older sister Paige’s idea,’ said Miss Brown.

‘We fell in love with Enola after reading The Enola Holmes Mysteries so we went to my mum and dad, who own a production company, and said, “We’re so inspired by her. This needs to be a film.” My sister and I are producers as we felt it was only right to have girl power behind the scenes, too.’

She added: ‘Enola is Sherlock Holmes’s little sister, but I want to change that and make her famous.’ The film is out on September 23.
