DONS STAR PRIMED FOR EPL IN EYES OF MILLER
ABERDEEN legend Willie Miller has hailed Scott McKenna as ‘tailor-made’ for the English Premier League as the defender edged closer to a recordbreaking switch to Nottingham Forest. The Scotland international underwent a medical yesterday after a fee was agreed — believed to be £3million plus add ons — which represents a record sale for the Pittodrie club. The 23-year-old was left out of the Dons squad as they lost 3-0 at home to Motherwell on Sunday. Instead, he headed down south to seal his switch to the City Ground to join Sabri Lamouchi’s side who sit 22nd in the 24-team league after two defeats from two matches in the English Championship this season. In the past, Aberdeen have rejected bids for the in-demand McKenna from a host of clubs including Aston Villa, Celtic, Hull City, Swansea City and Queens Park Rangers. However, Gothenburg Great Miller, who led Aberdeen to European Cup Winners’ Cup glory in 1983, believes the time is right for all parties for McKenna to be allowed to move on during the current transfer window. And the former Dons captain and manager claims the powerful defender has the potential to one day grace the English top flight. Miller (pictured) told BBC Scotland: ‘I always thought Scott McKenna would go down south. ‘He is tailor-made for the Championship or Premier League. It was only a matter of time. ‘It may be welcomed by the club financially as they have put a lot of funds into supporting the manager. ‘The requirement is to balance the books and it’s great news for the development programme at Pittodrie. ‘They turned down a big offer from Aston Villa in 2018 as the timing wasn’t right. ‘Scott has been a great servant over the short period he has been there.’
