FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM THE SPFL THIS WEEKEND
ELYOUNOUSSI HITS TOP GEAR FOR CELTS
FRESH from his late winner in Latvia, Mohamed Elyounoussi scored his first league goal of the season in Celtic’s 3-0 win over Hibernian. The Norwegian is arguably becoming Celtic’s most consistent forward-thinking player. He is capable of creating chances at will and is now adding goals to his game at Parkhead.
MORELOS IS BACK IN THE RIGHT MOOD
NO goals but this was a much more encouraging performance from Alfredo Morelos yesterday. The Colombian showcased the strength and energy levels of old in Rangers’ 5-1 victory at Motherwell. His link-up play was excellent, dropping deep to play a part in the visitors’ second goal as Steven Gerrard’s side ran riot.
HOLT A KEY FIGURE FOR HUNGRY LIONS
AN important 2-0 win for Livingston over shot-shy St Johnstone was sealed by a quickfire double. However, Jason Holt’s quick thinking sealed victory. His goalline clearance midway through the second half effectively wrapped up the win and Holt (pictured) is a vital player in the midfield engine room for Livvy.
MUNRO PROVIDES MORE YOUTHFUL SPIRIT
HAMILTON have had plenty of brilliant youngsters emerge through their ranks in recent years and 18-year-old Kyle Munro looks like another bright prospect. He excelled in midfield in their battling 1-1 draw at home to Dundee United. Munro provides defensive steel but maintains an attacking threat for Brian Rice’s side.
LACK OF GOALS A CONCERN FOR SAINTS
FIVE defeats in a row have seen St Mirren plummet to the foot of the Premiership. The Covid crisis has undoubtedly hampered the progress of Jim Goodwin’s side. However, the Saints failed to register a shot on target in their 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock and have yet to score more than once in any of their nine league matches this season.
