Boyle picks up Hibs team-mate Doig after Frimpong roasting

- By BRIAN MARJORIBANKS

FOR young Josh Doig, 45 minutes getting the runaround from Jeremie Frimpong at Parkhead proved a chastening experience. Struggling to cope with the pacy threat of his fellow teenager, the Hibs left-back was put out of his misery at the break by boss Jack Ross. Before that happened, team-mate Martin Boyle was straight across to empathise with the 18-year-old as he trudged off the pitch. The jet-heeled Australia international well recalls trying, but failing, last December to pin down Frimpong in a man-of-the-match display that saw the Dutchman score the opener in a 2-0 victory. Celtic, he concluded, are fortunate to have found the former Manchester City youngster. Boyle said: ‘I put my arm around Josh at half-time and said: “Look, I played against Frimpong last year. I know what he’s like when he’s on his game”. ‘I came here to Celtic Park last season and he was very good. ‘He is such a good athlete and good on the ball. I am sure he will only get better. Celtic are lucky to have him. ‘He hurt us (on Sunday) and we need to find a way to stop him more than ever next time.’ Manager Ross is planning to chat with Doig in the hope of limiting the damage to his confidence. However, Boyle believes the teenager will be all the better for enduring a difficult afternoon. ‘It is a learning curve for Josh playing up against elite players,’ said Boyle, 27. ‘He’ll watch the game back and take it on the chin. He’ll improve as well. Maybe it’s what he needs.’ Hibs had high hopes of competing with the champions after drawing 2-2 with

Rangers in Leith the previous weekend. However, Boyle has backed them to bounce back strongly after Celtic ended their 100-per-cent record on the road this season. ‘Absolutely, this won’t define our season,’ he said. ‘We were fantastic against Rangers but, against Celtic, we were a bit unfortunate and got outplayed at times. There will not be many teams who take points at Celtic Park, though. ‘Hopefully, we pick ourselves up for Friday at home to Hamilton.’
