Legal review of ‘trans’ law
A DATE has been fixed for a judicial review to establish if a plan to expand the legal definition of women is ‘lawful’.
Lady Wise arranged for the two- day review to take place at the Court of Session on January 7 and 8, 2021.
Campaigners from For Women Scotland wish to challenge a government proposal to amend the Gender Representation on Public Boards (Scotland) Act 2018.
The organisation is concerned that the proposal to allow a man who identifies as a female to be legally recognised as a woman is unlawful. It also believes the Scottish Government is unable to legislate on the matter as equal opportunities are reserved for Westminster.
The Scottish Government believes the law must be changed to ensure equal representation of women on public boards.
