New era as Europe and US link up

EUROPEAN Tour chief executive Keith Pelley hailed a ‘new era for global golf’ after announcing a partnership with the US-based PGA Tour yesterday that surely paves the way for a World Tour. The alliance has been years in the making but came together in the space of 72 hours as both Tours look to kill off the upstart Saudi-backed Premier Golf League. Pelley admitted the Tour had received a ‘compelling offer’ from the PGL but opted to link arms instead with the organisation once considered its deadly rival. As he conceded: ‘This is a momentous day where the PGA Tour has gone from being a competitor to becoming a partner.’
