Goodwin heroics inspire Foley

- By JOHN McGARRY

ST MIRREN midfielder Sam Foley says there is no reason why the Paisley players can’t follow in the footsteps of manager Jim Goodwin and hold the League Cup aloft this season. Goodwin was skipper when the Buddies won the trophy by beating Hearts in 2013 and scarcely needs to remind the current squad that occasionally the stars can align. First, they have to overcome visitors Aberdeen today, but Foley insists his predecessors have shown that making it all the way to Hampden is not impossible. ‘I don’t know how he’s managed it but he (Goodwin) has got his face all over the inside of the stadium,’ smiled Foley. ‘So, whenever we’re here, we’re reminded about it. ‘That obviously happened in the not-too-distant past and the manager is always one to say anything is possible. ‘St Mirren in 2013 proved that’s the case and there’s no reason why this group can’t emulate that.’
